Contraindications

The use of Melanocyl (Methoxsalen) ointment is contraindicated if you are hypersensitive to any ingredients in this medication like Methoxsalen or Aminobenzoic acid, or to related medicines. Individuals with a photosensitive disease such as lupus, porphyria, or xeroderma pigmentosum (a rare genetic condition) should not use Melanocyl. Other contraindications include your medical record of melanoma or certain kinds of skin cancer, and your sensitiveness to sunlight or UV light.  

Side Effects

Damage to eyes, cataracts, skin getting old and carcinoma (skin cancer) are some dangers associated with this ointment and UVA treatment. Save your eyes by wearing tight-fitting spectacles throughout the UVA therapy. Methoxsalen brings alterations to skin tone that can take place after a couple of weeks and up to 9 months. Inform your medico if you suffer from any of these symptoms, such as rashes, indigestion, headache, lightheadedness, anxiety, fever, wakefulness, mouth infections, swelling, fluid retention, leg spasms.
